♥ The steady.
Lord of the Rings has been there as far back as I can remember.  I can remember a time before Star Wars, but I can't even remember a time before Lord of the Rings (or at least the Hobbit).  I can proudly say that I was an original fan before the movies came out, and couldn't help but be reminded of that episode of Doug (y'know, the one where that TV personality starts wearing a green sweater-vest and khaki shorts?  And it becomes the new look?  And nobody believes that Doug did the look way before it was popular? )  I love it so much I have mutilated my body in honor of it (see: Tattoo).  LotR is my soulmate.  It's my...precious.

♥ The old flame you don't see very often any more but whom you still really enjoy getting together with for a few drinks and maybe a pleasant nostalgic romp in the sheets.
Star Wars.  Yeah, I mean, I love it, I have an encyclopedic knowledge of the films and EU, but, I've been scorned too much in the past to really devote myself to it.  ::sniff:: NJO, Episode I, Darth Krayt? Force Unleashed, you were my most recent heartbreak.

♥ The one who seduced you and fucked you over and broke your heart in a million pieces and laughed about it.
Hellsing.  I loved the series, the manga and the OVA.  But eventually, the fandom as well as the source material itself , just became repellant.  (ROBOTS?!)

♥ The mysterious dark gothy one whom you used to sit up with talking until 3 a.m. at weird coffee houses and with whom you were quite smitten until you realized he really was fucking crazy.

♥ The one you spent a whole weekend in bed with and who drank up all your liquor, and whom you'd still really like to fuck again although you're relieved he doesn't actually live in town.
Evangelion.  Literally,  I spent an entire weekend watching the series, and by sunday at midnight, I had marathoned the final two episodes, and End of Evangelion.  Needless to say I was brain-fuckled.

♥ The alluring stranger whom you've flirted with at parties but have never gotten really serious with.
XXXHolic.  The formula seems great, and it definately has appeal, but I just haven't devoted the time.

♥ The one you hang out with and have vague fantasies about maybe having a thing with but ultimately you're just good buddies 'cause the friendship is there but the chemistry ain't.
Bleach.  I mean, it has the makings of everything I like, but it's too much of a "same candy bar, different wrapper" to REALLY stand out for me.

♥ The one your friends keep introducing you to and who seems like a hell of a cool guy except it's never really gone anywhere.

Maybe it's because X was my intro to the series, and remains my favorite, but, I just can't get as emotionally involved with polygons and MIDIs.

So, here is my obligatory birthday post.

For those left unawares, I am hosting a shindig this weekend (Saturday) at my apartment.  As far as food goes, it is a pot-luck style dinner.  I figured instead of everyone spending $10-15 at a restaurant, everyone could spend $10-15 on food, and we'd have a lot of food.  What we have so far:

Pot-Roast
Southern-Style Potatoes
Awesome Kate Dip
Wine

I know there's an invested interest in:
Rotisserie Chicken
Dessert
Wild rice

Plus, anything else you could want to bring, I imagine, would be fine!

Oh, and I suppose as far as presents.

I know I'm getting Watchmen, from Tini's dad, so that's taken care of --

I suppose gift cards to Joann's, Home Depot, or Best Buy would be cool. :D

So, for those of you unawares -- classic1st has made me addicted to Legend of the Five Rings, a tabletop set in a Fantasy Feudal-Japan.  What you may NOT know, is that L5R (Legend of the Five Rings) also has a Collectable Card Game, which I also play.  What you ALSO may not know, is that AEG ( the company that makes the game/cards) released a promotional Graphic Novel with their newest card-set, DEATH AT KOTEN.

Well, everybody's talkin' about it, so I guess I'll weigh in.

When I first heard, I don't really know how I felt.  I suppose I could best describe it as an apathetic disbelief.  I mean, the guy was very much a recluse anyway, had not released new work in years (yes, I know he was going to), and on top of all of that, was a very controversial figure.  I don't suppose I really started to consider until on the commute home, every radio station was playing his music.  DC (We don't play "ABC-123") 101.1, Hot 99.5, 106.7 WJFK (a talk radio station)...just about everything.

Is it sad that he's gone?  Well, yes.
Am I personally sad?  No.


A lot of people say that this story is overshadowing a lot of other things in the news, i.e. Farah Fawcett or even Iran -- while this is true, something to consider:

Princess Diana's death.

Yes, she was a monarch.  But we in America don't have royalty.

Our celebrities are our royalty.  And as far as celebrities go, MJ was a supreme A-Lister.

He influenced everything from Scary Movie Parodies, World of Warcraft dances, and even Revolutionary Girl Utena dubs!  (He'll throw your babies over bridges...)

So, yeah.  I guess my final thought is: It's untimely, it's unexpected.

So, Beltaine was totally awesome.

It was an amazing party, and, albeit with a pretty big speedbump at around midnight, everything seemed to go all right.

As far as I'm convinced, Audrey cutting her leg off will only serve to make the night more legendary.

Guess what I just finished

There were many casualties...I had to do a complete memory-wipe/reinstallation of XP.
